SALISBURY, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team suffered its first setback of the year to host Salisbury (#12 in Atlantic South region) by an 8-1 score.
Juniors Drew Ryan and Ray McDermott opened up the match with a hard-fought 8-6 defeat in No. 1 doubles, ending their seven-match winning streak. Senior Douglas Vaughan and junior Andre Sturniolo suffered an 8-2 setback in No. 2, halting their winning streak at nine.
The lone victory for the Mustangs came in No. 3 doubles, where senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato picked up an 8-5 win to remain undefeated (8-0).
Sturniolo's winning streak ended at four in a 6-1, 6-1 defeat in No. 2 singles, while Ryan dropped his first singles match since October 14 in No. 3.
Ly took his No. 5 match to a deciding third set, but would eventually fall by a 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 margin.
The Mustangs (12-1, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) return to conference play in a home match against Messiah on Tuesday, April 16. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
