Men's Tennis Routs Arcadia, Moves to 12-0

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team defeated visiting Arcadia by an 8-1 score, improving its record to 12-0 on the year.

The Mustangs (12-0, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) took control of the match early by sweeping the doubles matches. 

Juniors Drew Ryan and Ray McDermott turned in a solid performance in an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles, extending their winning streak to seven. In No. 2, senior Douglas Vaughan and junior Andre Sturniolo came out on top in an exciting 8-7 (10-2) match to win their ninth straight. Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato improved their record to 7-0 in an 8-2 victory in No. 3.

Sturniolo cruised to his fourth-straight victory, taking down his No. 2 singles opponent by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Ryan triumphed in his No. 3 match in straight sets by 6-1, 6-4 margin, giving him nine-straight wins. 

Vaughan picked up his 11th win of the year in dominant fashion, 6-1, 6-2. Ly had to go the distance in his 6-2, 6-7 (10-3), 10-6 victory in No. 5, giving him six wins this season. 

Freshman Larry Johnson routed his No. 6 opponent by a 6-0, 6-0 score, giving him 10 victories on the season. 

The Mustangs will hit the road for a non-conference road match at Salisbury on Sunday, April 14. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m.
