Fulton Hits Two Home Runs, Mustangs Split at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - Stevenson softball junior Morghan Fulton launced two home runs while picking up her sixth win in the pitching circle as the Mustangs split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Widener Saturday afternoon.

  • Stevenson 9, Widener 5; WP: Fulton (6-4), L: Powell (4-2)
  • Sophomore Kayla Briles drew a leadoff walk before scoring from first base after a single by junior Haley Lennon followed by an error by the centerfielder.
  • With one out and runners on first and third, Fulton launched a three-run home run to give the Mustangs a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Pride (13-7, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) hit back-to-back one-out doubles to get on the board.
  • But in the next inning, Fulton blasted another home run, a two-run shot to centerfield.
  • In the sixth inning, Lennon hit an RBI double while senior Erin Stephey brought in a run with a sacrifice fly before an RBI single by junior Erin Muir.
  • Widener scored four runs on three straight two-out singles to get within, 9-5, extend the game to the seventh inning.
  • Muir finished 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI while Lennon went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
  • For Fulton, it is her first career two home run game while finishing with a career-best five RBIs.

  • Widener 1, Stevenson 0; WP: Jaworski (7-4), L: Monahan (1-3)
  • Fulton recorded the first hit of the game with a double to left center in the second innnig.
  • The Pride put runners on second and third with one out in the bottom half of the inning but both were stranded.
  • In the bottom of the third with two outs, Widener hit three consecutive singles and scored the go-ahead run from second base.
  • The Mustangs (6-10, 2-4 MAC Commonwealth) had runners on first and third with one out in the seventh inning but left them stranded after the next to batters popped out and grounded out, respectively.
  • Stephey finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

  • The Mustangs were shutout for just the second time this season but the second time in three games.
  • Stevenson recorded 11 hits in game one, marking the sixth time this season with at least 10 hits.
  • The Mustangs left a combined 13 runners on base and were and 5-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, April 3 when the Mustangs host a non-conference doubleheader versus Wesley beginning at 3:00 p.m.
