Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated in 8-1 Rout of SUNY Oswego

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Stevenson men's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the year after defeating SUNY Oswego by an 8-1 score at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.

The Mustangs opened up the day by taking all three of the doubles matches. 

Juniors Drew Ryan and Ray McDermott won a hard-fought match in No. 1 doubles by an 8-7 (7-5) score, improving their record to 2-1. Senior Douglas Vaughan and junior Andre Sturniolo cruised to an 8-0 win in No. 2, while senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato won by the same 8-0 margin in No. 3. 

McDermott opened up singles play with a tough three-set tiebreak defeat in No. 1 singles, dropping his record to 4-4.

Sturniolo improved to 7-4 in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 2. Ryan defeated his No. 3 opponent by the same 6-2, 6-0 score, moving him to 7-1 on the season. 

Vaughan picked up his seventh singles win of the year in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 over his No. 4 opponent.

Ly and freshman Larry Johnson III both picked up 6-3, 6-1 victories in their respective matches.

The Mustangs take on Buena Vista in their final spring break match on Thursday, March 21 at 2 p.m.
