Five Players Score as Mustangs Cruise to 5-0 Victory at Manhattanville

RYE, N.Y. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team had five different player find the back of the net and 13 players record a point as the Mustangs cruised to a 5-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Manhattanville Friday evening at Playland Ice Casino.

  • The Valiants (2-4-1, 1-4-0 UCHC) went on the power play just 35 seconds into the contest after a hooking penalty on the opening shift.
  • Manhattanville did not have any shots on net during the man advantage while the visitors had its lone shot blocked.
  • At the 6:17 mark, freshman Chris Lee netted his first career goal to give the Mustangs (4-1-0, 3-1-0 UCHC) an early 1-0 lead.
  • Junior Carl Lyden and senior Dominic Brenza recorded the assists.
  • Just 2:13 later, sophomore Chad Watt doubled the visitors lead, netting a shorthanded goal on assists from senior Evan Williams and sophomore Luke Benitez.
  • Stevenson had its first power play opportunity of the game with 2:55 remaining in the period. The team recorded just one shot but went right back on the man advantage eight seconds later.
  • Senior Nick Gray netted his fourth power play goal of the season right away as sophomore Ryan Patrick and freshman Austin Master picked up points on the assists.

  • The Mustangs killed off an early penalty as both goalies made saves while junior Matt Cappucci came up with a blocked shot.
  • Just nine seconds after Stevenson killed off a penalty midway through the period, sophomore Oleg Potemkin found the back of the net to push the lead to 4-0.
  • Senior Christian Ripley and Cappucci added to the scoresheet with the assists.
  • Less than two minutes later, Patrick scored his first goal of the season on assists from Master and junior Aaron Murray.

  • Manhattanville outshot Stevenson, 3-1, in the period.
  • The Mustangs took the lone penalty of the frame.

  • Stevenson outshot Manhattanville, 25-14, marking the seventh time in program history the Mustangs have held an opponent to under 20 shots.
  • The Mustangs finished 2-for-5 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill. Stevenson has scored a power play goal in four of its five games.
  • Freshman Ryan Kenny stopped all 14 shots for his first career shutout.
  • It is the second multi-assist game for Master this season and third multi-point game for Patrick.
  • For Watt, it is his third goal in the last two games.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, November 23 when the Mustangs travel to Neumann for a UCHC contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home on Friday, November 29 when the team hosts a non-conference contest versus 15th-ranked St. Norbert. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
