Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball junior Erin Stephey hit a pair of home runs while both senior Tiffany McKee and sophomore Morghan Fulton each went long once as the Mustangs posted a non-conference doubleheader split with Catholic Thursday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium. The Mustangs dropped the opener, 9-5, before bouncing back with an 8-2 game two victory.
The Mustangs (9-7), who had not played since March 18 due to weather, have won eight of their last 10 games after starting the season 1-5 and has already matched last season's win total.
After neither team recorded a hit in the first inning of game one, Catholic leading hitter Makayla Czan hit a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the second inning to give the visiting Cardinals (11-11) an early lead. Stevenson did not record its first hit until the third inning, a single up the middle by sophomore Haley Lennon.
The hosts cut the deficit to just one run in the bottom of the sixth inning at 4-3 after a solo home run by Fulton, but Catholic scored five runs in the top of the seventh on five hits, including a grand slam by Marissa Deblasie to extend its lead.
Senior Jasmyn Ogletree brought in a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom half of the inning but the Mustangs could not close the six-run gap and left two runners on base in the inning.
Both Ogletree and Lennon had two-hit ball games.
Fulton started game two with a three up, three down inning in the pitching circle before senior Tiffany McKee brought in a run in the bottom of the first inning with a double to left center. The Mustangs added six runs in the second inning, sparked by a three-run homer by Stephey that was quickly followed by a solo shot by McKee.
Freshman Alexandra DiGrande also brought in a pair of runs with a double to left center. Stephey capped her two home run ball game with a solo shot in the fifth inning.
Stephey finished 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBIs, three runs and two walks. Both McKee and DiGrande were 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Fulton allowed just two earned runs in the circle and scattered six hits for her fourth victory of the season.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, April 7 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Lebanon Valley beginning at 1:00 p.m.
