Mustangs Down Arcadia, Clinch No. 2 Seed in MAC Commonwealth Semifinals

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team defeated host Arcadia by a 7-2 score, clinching the No. 2 seed in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals. The Mustangs (13-5, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) will host Lebanon Valley at the Stevenson Tennis Courts on Wednesday, May 2 at 3:30 pm.

Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Ray McDermott improved their record to 15-9 after taking their No. 1 doubles match by an 8-4 score.

Sophomore Andre Sturniolo and junior Douglas Vaughan won their 10th straight to improve to 10-1 on the year with an 8-2 win in No. 2. Freshman Richie Abruscato and junior Andrew Ryan moved to 7-2 as a tandem by taking down their No. 3 opponents, 8-1.

Sturniolo won his 14th straight and moved to 14-1 on the year in No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win in No. 2 singles. Ryan also won his 14th straight in 6-2, 6-1 triumph in No. 4. Ryan is now 18-3 on the season. 

Abruscato took his match in No. 6 by a 6-3, 6-0 margin, improving his record to 13-4 on the year.

Ly picked up his third-straight win in straight sets, taking his No. 3 match by a 6-2, 6-3 score. 

Both McDermott and Vaughan dropped their singles matches in three sets.
