Mustangs Set Single-Game Goal Record for Second Time in 2018

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. – The Stevenson University men's lacrosse team scored a single-game program record 33 goals as it posted an 33-7 MAC Commonwealth victory over Hood Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.  The Mustangs won their fifth in a row and ninth in 10 outings.

Stevenson (9-6, 7-0 MAC Commonwealth) improved to 47-0 all-time in MAC Commonwealth regular season play.  The 33 goals surpasses the program record of 32 set earlier this season against Alvernia.

The Mustangs also wrapped up the No.1 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Wednesday, as the win, coupled with Widener's loss to Albright, clinched the top spot. Stevenson hosts Widener Friday at 7 at Mustang Stadium for Senior Night.

Sophomore Ethan Christensen scored the first two goals of the game for the Mustangs at 11:37 and 10:45 as the guests scored the first four goals of the game.  Stevenson scored five straight goals in a span of 2:44 late in the first quarter to open up an 11-2 lead, and scored all nine goals of the second en route to a 20-2 lead at halftime.

Stevenson outshot Hood (7-7, 1-6 MAC Commonwealth) 74-34 and won 35 of 42 faceoffs, with sophomore Justin Burnette going 26-29 and recording 18 ground balls.  Sophomore Sam Ross played the first 30 minutes in goal and made three saves.  Junior Tyler Steinberg made a pair of saves in the third quarter, while senior Marc Poust went the final 15 minutes and made nine stops.

A total of 15 players scored for the Mustangs, with nine players recording multiple goals.  Junior JT Thelen led Stevenson with eight goals and an assist, while Christensen recorded four goals.  Senior Kyle Karsian finished with three goals and a pair of assists, with freshman Jacob Tatum adding two goals and two assists.

Stevenson notched 12 caused turnovers, its second-highest total of the season, with Jacob Magaw and Tyler Russo each finishing with two.

Hood was led by Grayson Zubradt with three goals and an assist.
