Fulton Pitches Complete Game Shutout, Mustangs Split With Albright

READING, Pa. - Stevenson softball sophomore Morghan Fulton tossed her third complete game shutout of the season while junior Erin Stephey recorded four hits as the Mustangs posted a MAC Commonwealth split versus Albright Wednesday afternoon.

The Mustangs (12-14, 4-8 MAC Commonwealth), who have dropped four of their last five, currently sit outside of playoff contention but are just one win outside of the top four.

In the opening game, Stevenson quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on back-to-back RBIs by seniors Jasmyn Ogletree and Kate Finnen. Ogletree hit an RBI single to score Stephey who led off the game with a single down the left field line before Finnen drove in senior Brooke Steinbach with a double to left field.

Finnen hit a second double in her second at bat to drive in another run in the third inning before sophomore Haley Lennon hit a bases loaded single to center field to score two runs. The Mustangs were held to just one run in each of the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings but added a run to their lead in the seventh as Stephey hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield with the bases loaded.

Fulton dominated in the pitching circle, scattering just four hits and striking out four. Ogletree finished 3-for-4 at the plate while both Stephey and Finnen each totaled two hits.

The Lions (11-12, 5-7 MAC Commonwealth) took a 1-0 lead after the first inning before the Mustangs tied the game with a two out double by senior Tiffany McKee to score freshman Kayla Briles from second. Albright scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run home run by Camille Sears.

Trailing 6-1 in entering the seventh inning, Stevenson scored four runs, including an RBI double by Stephey to get the visitors within 6-4. Steinbach knocked in a run with two outs with a single to right field to get within one but the Mustangs left their fifth runner of the game stranded.

Stephey, Steinbach and Briles all recorded two hits at the plate.

Stevenson returns to action on Thursday, April 19 when the Mustangs travel to McDaniel for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
