Mustangs Sweep Hood, Clinch Spot into MAC Commonwealth Semi's

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team clinched a spot into the MAC Commonwealth semifinals after sweeping Hood at the Greenspring courts. With the win, the Mustangs are now 10-5 overall and 4-1 in MAC Commonwealth play. 

In doubles play, sophomore Ray McDermott and senior Wornden Ly improved their record to 14-8 after cruising to an 8-2 win in No. 1. Sophomore Andre Sturniolo and junior Douglas Vaughan dominated their No. 2 opponents 8-0, increasing their winning streak to seven. Stevenson won the other doubles match by forfeit.

McDermott would later pick up his ninth win of the year after winning his No. 1 singles match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Sturniolo and junior Andrew Ryan both increased their singles winning streaks to 11 after straight-set victories. Ryan swept his opponent in No. 3 by a 6-0, 6-0 score, while Sturniolo won by a 6-3, 6-2 margin in No. 2. 

Vaughan won his 10th match of the year, downing his No. 5 opponent by a 6-1, 6-4 score. Freshman Richie Abruscato won his sixth straight and improved to 11-3 after taking down his No. 5 opponent, 6-0, 6-2. The No. 6 singles match was won via forfeit. 

The Mustangs take on St. Mary's in their final non-conference match of the year on Thursday, April 19 at 2:00 pm.
