Box Score READING, Pa. – Five different players finished with multiple goals as Stevenson University scored the final eight goals to pull away for a 14-3 MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse victory against Albright College at Shirk Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs (3-5, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) won their third straight game and also improved to 42-0 all-time in MAC Commonwealth regular season play. Albright (3-6, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) fell to 0-9 against Stevenson all-time.
Freshman Jacob Tatum paced Stevenson with three goals and a pair of assists, while junior Chris Hammerquist notched three goals and an assist. Sophomore Danny Buckwalter finished with two goals, the first two of his collegiate career. Sophomore Ethan Christensen totaled two goals and four assists, with junior JT Thelen recording a goal and an assist. Junior Gray McKee notched a goal and an assist, while senior Kyle Karsian added the other Mustang tally.
James Gorman had a goal and an assist for Albright, with Andrew Cox and Carson Babcock each recording the other goals.
Babcock scored a man-up goal to give the Lions a 1-0 lead 1:28 into the game. Christensen tied the game at the 11:50 mark. Christensen assisted on a goal by Hammerquist with 1:13 left in the first quarter and the Mustangs led 2-1 after one.
Hammerquist extended Stevenson's lead 2:12 into the second quarter before Cox made it a one-goal game with 6:47 left in the first half. The guests scored three times in the final 4:22 of the half and a Christensen goal with 1:03 remaining before intermission gave them a 6-2 halftime lead.
Gorman scored at the 13:21 mark of the third to pull Albright within 6-3, but that would be the final goal of the game for the hosts as Stevenson scored the game's final eight goals. Buckwalter scored two of Stevenson's four goals in the frame as it led 10-3 after three, then Thelen scored twice in the fourth as the Mustangs tacked on four more goals.
Stevenson outshot Albright 68-20, with Lion goalie Ryan Aler making 28 saves. Sophomore Sam Ross made eight saves over the first 57:07 of the game before senior Marc Poust made one save in the final 2:53. The Mustangs won 18-of-19 faceoffs, with sophomore Justin Burnette going 16-17 at the X, and the guests picked up 39 ground balls to Albright's 17.
Burnette picked up 11 ground balls on the afternoon, while senior Austin Howard had three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. Chazz Collison had a pair of caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Stevenson steps out of conference play Tuesday night when it hosts No. 13 Stevens in a 7:00 contest at Mustang Stadium.
