Six In Double Figures as Mustangs Down Defenders

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson men's basketball team never trailed and placed six players in double figures as it blew past Clarks Summit 88-51 in the first round of the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Friday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

  • Stevenson jumped out to a 7-0 lead just over two minutes into the game following a three by Cam Harris.
  • A 17-0 run capped by a steal and layup by Montaque Wright at the 11:52 mark pushed Stevenson's lead to 19, 24-5.
  • Clarks Summit pulled within 13, 28-15, at the 4:25 mark, holding the Mustangs scoreless for nearly six minutes, 
  • A layup by Mark Terrell 2:30 before intermission broke the Mustang drought and made it 30-15.
  • The Defenders cut the lead to 13 two more times, but a three by Marlon White, Jr. as time expired put the hosts up 16, 38-22, at the break.
  • Stevenson shot 48.5% in the first half, while Clarks Summit was just 27.6% from the floor.

  • The Mustangs opened the second half on a 12-4 run and a dunk by Terrell put Stevenson up 50-26 just over three minutes into the half.
  • An 11-0 spurt capped by a putback by Johnny Rhodes at the 12:07 mark made it a 63-31 game.
  • The Mustangs maintained at least a 25 point lead the rest of the way.

  • Terrell led the Mustangs with 18 points and six rebounds.
  • Harris finished 3-4 behind the arc and tallied 11 points, while Wright also finished with 11 points and seven assists.
  • White finished 5-8 from the floor and finished with 11 points, as did Rhodes.
  • Bo Wesley added 10 points and six rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.
  • Stevenson outrebounded Clarks Summit 46-31 and shot 51% while the Defenders shot 29%.
  • The Mustangs held a 23-5 advantage in fast break points and 54-16 lead in points in the paint.
  • Eleven of the 13 players who played for Stevenson reached the scoring column.
  • Clarks Summit was led by Khari Dickson's 13 points.
