Men's Tennis Tops St. Mary's (Md.) 5-4

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team picked up its second victory of the season with a 5-4 win over host St. Mary's (Md.).

The Mustangs (2-0) opened up play by taking two of the three double matches.

Junior Andre Sturniolo and senior Douglas Vaughan won a 9-8 (7-4) thriller in No. 2 doubles, giving them their second win in as many matches this season.

Sophomore Richie Abruscato and senior Alex Kiblin picked up an 8-3 win in their No. 3 match.

Freshman Larry Johnson III was dominant in his first collegiate match, winning in straight sets by a 6-1, 6-0 score.

Junior Drew Ryan was tied at one set apiece with his No. 3 singles opponent before Samuel Sheats of St. Mary's  had to retire from the match.

Senior Wornden Ly was leading his No. 4 match by a 4-1 score before his opponent had to withdraw. 

The Mustangs will close out the fall season at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championship, hosted by King's (Pa.) and Wilkes, starting on Friday, October 12.
