Box Score GLASSBORO, N.J. – After an exciting come from behind victory at Shenandoah on Saturday in double overtime. The Mustangs (4-2) suffered their first road loss of the season falling at Rowan University by a final Wednesday evening of, 2-0. Freshman Noel Martin accounted for three of the six Stevenson shots on the night. Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Eure made six saves on the 12 shots she faced in relief of junior Maia Harper. Who was making her first start in a Stevenson jersey.
With the loss, the Mustangs dropped their third in a row to the Profs (5-3). The last time Stevenson was victorious in this series was in 2014 when they defeated Rowan, 2-1 in overtime in Owings Mills.
Stevenson found themselves behind early in the contest as with 4:03 gone Rowan's Rachel Galante took a pass from Julie Johnson and found herself all alone against Harper slipping the ball past her to give the hosts an early, 1-0 edge on the first shot of the game.
The visitors first shot came from sophomore Tanner Ridgely with 21:06 left in half number one. However, it would not amount to much as her offering went wide of the net patrolled by keeper Carly DeMarco.
Five minutes later the home side was back on the attack. A shot from Johnson resulted in a penalty corner taken by Dayna DeVincentz. Her pass landed on the stick of Johnson who fired to goal only to have it stopped by junior Marissa Hoffman from crossing the line. The following rebound was put into the cage by DeVincentz making the score, 2-0 with 15:07 to go.
That goal signaled the end of the night for Harper who was then replaced by Eure.
The Mustangs tried to rally after the substitution as only two minutes later junior Sara McVey was in the attack area sending one at goal, but was knocked away by DeMarco.
Eure was left untested for the first eight minutes of her appearance as the defense tightened up around their new netminder. With a little over seven minutes to play, she finally saw some action when Rachel Galante fired one at the net, but Eure was unfazed and made the calm save.
For the final seven minutes, neither side could muster any offense, as no shots were recorded and the teams went to the half with Rowan up, 2-0.
In the first period, the hosts carried the play outshooting Stevenson, 9-4 and held a 7-3 edge in penalty corners.
Half number two opened up with the Mustangs on the attack. When only 2:30 into the frame Martin found herself in the area ready to test DeMarco, but her shot rolled wide.
Just under eight minutes in and the only shot of the half had come from Martin. Rowan changed that when with 7:56 gone Bridget Boyle was able to get a shot on Eure who stood tall and kept the score where it was.
The guests only other shot of the second period was from McVey with three minutes, but she was denied by DeMarco.
The final three minutes saw neither team able to record a shot and the final horn sounded with the home side on top, 2-0.
Rowan maintained their edge throughout the contest outshooting the Mustangs, 17-6 and controlled the penalty corners holding a 12-4 advantage.
Stevenson will continue their four-game road trip on Saturday, September, 23 when they travel to Reading to take on the Lions of Albright College in their first MAC Commonwealth game of the season at 5:30 p.m.
