ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Second-ranked RIT jumped out to an 8-3 lead after one quarter and scored six times in the final frame as it downed No. 13 Stevenson 17-8 in the third round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium.  The Tigers (18-2), who see their win streak extended to 13 games, advance to Wednesday's quarterfinals and will host SUNY Cortland.

Stevenson (14-6), which was making its ninth straight NCAA appearance, saw a four-game win streak snapped.

RIT scored six straight goals in the first period to open up a 7-1 lead and led 8-3 after one period.  The Tigers extended their lead to 10-3 before Stevenson scored twice in the final minute before halftime to cut the advantage to five.  Senior Kyle D'Onofrio scored off a feed from Brandon Watson with 49 seconds to go, then with just 2.1 seconds left, a behind-the-back goal from senior Wade Korvin made it 10-5 at intermission.

JD Hall made it 11-5 just over two minutes into the third period for RIT, but a man up goal by junior Kyle Karsian with 4:05 again cut the Tiger lead to five.  With 19 seconds to go in the third, sophomore JT Thelen scored off a Watson pass to pull Stevenson within 11-7.

RIT scored 41 seconds into the final frame on a Braden Wallace man-up tally then scored two more to make it 14-7 with 10:09 left.  Senior Tyler Fuhrman scored on a great individual move with 9:35 left to make it 14-8, but that would be the final goal for the Mustangs as RIT scored three more goals in the final 7:51.

Ryan Lee gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead 1:52 into the contest, before Fuhrman scored in transition to tie the game 1-1 at the 11:47 mark.  RIT rattled off six straight goals in a span of 5:22, capped by a Lee man up tally, to go up 7-1 with 6:25 to go in the opening quarter.  Korvin stopped the run with a man-up goal at the 4:02 mark.  RIT scored with 4:02 left before Karsian scored with just under 10 seconds to go to make it 8-3 after one quarter.

Nick Nesbitt turned aside 14 shots for RIT, while Stevenson senior Ross Dinan recorded a career-best 16 saves as the Tigers outshot the Mustangs 58-35.  Both teams won 13 faceoffs, but the Tigers picked up nine more ground balls (47-38).  Stevenson also was just 16-27 on its clear attempts and had 21 turnovers, while the hosts went 24-26 and had 14 turnovers.

Fuhrman, Korvin and Karsian each had a pair of goals, with Korvin adding an assist.  Thelen and D'Onofrio each notched a goal and an assist, while Watson recorded two assists.  Ethan Christensen also notched an assist.

Korvin also posted a pair of caused turnovers.  Freshman Justin Burnette won 13-of-24 faceoffs and also picked up seven ground balls.  Sophomore Dylan Harris picked up nine ground balls and had a caused turnover, while senior Drew Cormode had a caused turnovers to go along with his six ground balls.
