Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Sophomore JT Thelen led 12th-ranked Stevenson with five goals and three assists as the Mustangs downed Hood 22-6 Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium in MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse. Stevenson is currently on a four game win streak.
The Mustangs (7-3, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) improved their all-time record in MAC Commonwealth regular season play to 36-0. Stevenson also scored 22 goals for the third straight game, marking the first time it has scored at least 20 in three straight games since doing it in four straight contests from April 11-21, 2015.
Nine different Mustangs scored on the night including four goals by senior Tyler Fuhrman and a pair of hat tricks for junior Kyle Karsian and senior Sean Ohlhaver. Freshman Ethan Christensen and senior Kyle D'Onofrio each had two goals, while seniors Wade Korvin, Morgan Pritchett and Jacob Brown added single tallies. Korvin had a season high four assists while junior Dominic DeFazio helped the Mustangs defensively with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
A pair of underclassmen led the charge for the Blazers (6-5, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) as freshmen Tristan Moreno had two goals and sophomore Eddie Somerville each had two goals. Senior Patrick O'Brien tallied a goal and an assist on the evening while classmate Alex Villegas found his only shot of the night in the back of the net.
The Mustangs opened the game with a quick goal by Karsian 49 seconds into the game. Ohlhaver would then muscle his way through the Blazers defense to pick up the second goal of the night giving Stevenson a 2-0 lead at the 8:29 mark. The Mustangs would go on to score three more goals putting the hosts up 5-0 before Moreno finally got Hood on the board at 2:04. Stevenson answered to Moreno's goal quickly as D'Onofrio responded within 26 seconds making it 6-1 to end the period.
Stevenson scored three straight goals to open the second and make it 9-11:51 into the frame. Somerville would answer the Mustangs with a goal at 12:48, but the Mustangs continued their offensive attack with a goal just 30 seconds later by Ohlhaver. The hosts would then go to score the final six goals of the period and took a 15-2 lead into the locker room.
Stevenson outshot Hood 73-20 on the evening while also winning 18 of 30 at the faceoff x, with freshman Justin Burnette winning 14 of 19 draws. All four goalies on the Stevenson roster saw some action tonight as senior starter Ross Dinan had three saves on the night through 33:02 of action. Stevenson was 1-3 on extra-man opportunities while the hosts scooped up 46 ground balls to the Blazers 35. Hood had 25 turnovers as Stevenson turned it over 12 times, the Mustangs second lowest turnover total of the season.
The Mustangs travel to Chester, Pa. next, as they begin a two-game road trip at Widener on Saturday, April 8 at 1:00 pm in a MAC Commonwealth contest.
