WASHINGTON, D.C. - Three different players recorded two hits on the day as the Stevenson softball team concluded its 2017 season with a non-conference doubleheader loss versus Catholic Sunday afternoon at CUA Softball Field.
The Mustangs (9-25) finished with a combined 11 hits on the day while committing zero errors in the field. The team finished with no errors in four of the final six games on the season and 10 games overall.
Catholic scored a run in each of the first four innings in the opening game, including a four-run third inning. The Cardinals (26-12) recorded six of their nine hits in the third inning, totaling two runs with two outs.
The lone run for the visitors came in the fourth inning when junior Kate Finnen hit an RBI single with two outs to score classmate Jasmyn Ogletree who drew a leadoff walk. Senior Nicole Dell led the team with two hits while junior Tiffany McKee recorded the team's fifth hit.
A three-run first inning by the Cardinals in game two proved to be the difference as both teams scored three runs in the third through fifth innings.
Sophomore Erin Stephey and Ogletree each hit RBI singles in the top of the third inning to cut the visitors deficit to just one. But Catholic responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to push its lead back to three.
After the hosts added a run in the fourth inning, the Mustangs scored in the fifth inning as freshman and pinch runner Gina D'Andrea scored on a wild pitch. Stevenson loaded the bases with one out on a walk by senior Naomi Fields but the Mustangs could not push anymore runs across.
The trio of Ogletree, Stephey and McKee finished with the team lead of 10 multi-hit games while Fields led the team with four multi-RBI games. Ogletree ended the season with a 12-game hitting streak.
