No. 11 Cabrini Halts No. 14 Stevenson Win Streak

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – No. 11 Cabrini University halted No. 14 Stevenson University's seven-game win streak by pulling away for a 15-9 non-conference men's lacrosse victory Friday night at Dixon Field.

The Cavaliers (11-3) scored six of the first seven goals of the third quarter to turn a 4-4 halftime tie into a 10-5 lead.  A Jordan Krug goal at the 6:26 mark put Cabrini on top by five.  The Mustangs (10-4) scored the final three goals of the third, and a goal by senior Kyle D'Onofrio with 40 seconds to go cut the lead to 10-8 after three.

Cabrini put the game away by scoring the first four goals of the fourth, with Timmy Brooks scoring with 7:38 left to make it 14-8.  Junior Kyle Karsian scored a man-up goal for Stevenson with 6:53 left to stop Cabrini's run, but Evan Downey closed out the scoring for the hosts with exactly four minutes left.

Cabrini scored twice in a 37-second span to take a 2-0 lead 4:28 into the game on a Krug man-up goal.  Junior Brandon Watson got Stevenson on the board at the 6:12 mark and the Mustangs trailed 2-1 headed to the second quarter.

Senior Wade Korvin tied the game off a feed from D'Onofrio at the 11:17 mark of the second, but goals at 9:41 and 3:32 gave Cabrini a 4-2 lead.  Korvin halved the lead with a goal at the 2:28 mark, then sophomore JT Thelen scored 1:25 before intermission to knot the game 4-4 , which was the halftime score.

Cabrini goalie Matt Nestler made eight saves, while Ross Dinan and TJ Ellis split time in goal for the Mustangs.  Dinan made three stops in 37:52 of action, while Ellis did not make a save over the final 22:08.  The Cavaliers held a 40-39 shot advantage and each team won 14 faceoffs, but the Mustangs were just 5-12 in clear attempts while Cabrini went 16-16.

D'Onofrio led Stevenson with three goals and an assist, while Korvin added two goals and an assist.  Thelen, Watson, Karsian and senior Sean Ohlhaver each had single tallies.  Junior Dominic DeFazio notched three caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls, while Chazz Collison and Justin Burnette also picked up three ground balls apiece.

Stevenson returns to action Tuesday when it travels to No. 20 Stevens for a 7:00 non-conference contest.
