Stephey, Fulton Lead Mustangs MAC Commonwealth Split with Albright

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball sophomore Erin Stephey hit her second career home run and second this season as the Mustangs split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Albright Wednesday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.

The win was the first in conference play for the Mustangs (7-19, 1-11 MAC Commonwealth) after picking up a 2-1 victory in game two after falling in five innings in game one, 12-2. The win was also the third one-run victory this season.

Four errors in the opening game lead to seven unearned runs for the Lions (12-14, 5-7 MAC Commonwealth). It is the third time this season Stevenson has recorded at least four errors in a game.

Albright recorded two errors in the bottom of the first inning, leading to an unearned run and an early lead for the hosts. But four hits by the Lions in the top of the second inning, including a two-RBI single to left center by Stephany Courtney.

The visitors used a big fourth inning, recording six runs on six hits, all with two outs. Stevenson opponents are hitting .339 with two outs.

Stephey, who leads the team with 27 hits, hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Freshman Morghan Fulton finished 2-for-3 while classmate Kaitlin Geary did not allow a hit through 1.1 innings of relief.

A two-out, two-RBI single in the first inning of game two by senior Naomi Fields was all the team needed as both juniors Jasmyn Ogletree and Tiffany McKee scored after singling to centerfield. McKee was one of two players who finished with two hits in the game.

The Lions cut the deficit to one in the next half inning after a sacrifice fly scored a run from third after a one-out triple.

Fulton recorded another two runs at the plate and scattered just six hits in the pitching circle for her second win.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, April 22 when the Mustangs travel to Alvernia for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
