Men's Tennis Wins Third-Straight MAC Commonwealth Match, Defeat Hood 5-4

FREDERICK, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team picked up its third-straight MAC Commonwealth victory in a 5-4 road triumph over Hood. With the win, the Mustangs (5-10) are now 4-1 in conference play. 

Senior Bryan Gieselman and junior Wornden Ly opened up the match with an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles, which improved their record to 10-8 on the season. 

Later in the day, Gieselman picked up a straight-set victory in No. 1 singles by a 6-3, 6-3 score. Ly won his second-straight No. 2 singles match in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. 

In No. 3 doubles, senior Tony Beres and junior Robbie Koons suffered a hard-fought 8-6 setback. 

Senior Kevin Slujtner won a first-set tiebreaker in his No. 5 singles match before winning in straight-sets, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. 

Junior Mike Richmond overcame on one-set deficit in his No. 4 singles match, but would eventually fall by a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 score. 

The Mustangs compete next in a non-conference home match against Elizabethtown on Thursday, April 20 at 4:00 pm.
