Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Senior Wade Korvin led with four goals for Stevenson University as the No. 11 Mustangs downed Lebanon Valley 14-2 on Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium in MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse. The win by Stevenson snapped LVC's five-game win streak.
Stevenson remained unbeaten all-time against Lebanon Valley, improving to 6-0. The Mustangs improved to 33-0 all-time in the regular season against MAC Commonwealth opponents.
Seven Mustangs scored on the night against a defense that was allowing just 5.14 goals per game entering the contest, with Korvin leading way as he added an assist and four ground balls to his four goals. Sophomore JT Thelen finished with three goals and three assists, while freshman Ethan Christensen and junior Kyle Karsian each totaled two goals and an assist. Senior Kyle D'Onofrio added a goal and an assist, while freshman Preston Faecher scored his first collegiate goal.
Junior Dominic DeFazio led Stevenson (4-3, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) defensively with seven ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Senior Klayton Garman and sophomore Matt Torrence scored the Lebanon Valley's (6-2, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) two goals on the night while sophomore Max Warmingham tallied an assist. Sophomore Cameron Epple had 16 saves on the night.
The Mustangs needed just 45 seconds to score the opening goal as Thelen put the hosts on the board first. Stevenson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter as they held Lebanon Valley from scoring in the quarter. Stevenson capitalized on the Dutchmen's 10 turnovers as well as holding possession for most of the quarter.
Stevenson's second quarter was similar as the first, as Mustangs continued to score making it 7-0. Karisian had a pair of goals in the quarter while Korvin had the other goal. It is the first time this season that the Mustangs held an opponent from scoring in the first half.
Two more goals were scored by the Mustangs in the third quarter before senior Klayton Garman finally put the Dutchmen on the board making it 9-1 with 6:09 to go in the third. Following Lebanon Valley's goal, the Mustangs then scored three straight stretching the Mustangs lead to 11. Lebanon Valley managed to score one more goal in the final quarter as the Mustangs tallied a pair of their own.
Stevenson outshot Lebanon Valley 57-22 on the evening while also winning 15 of 19 at the faceoff x. Senior Ross Dinan had three saves on the night in 53:42 of action, before TJ Ellis went the rest of the way in goal. He was not forced to make a save. Turnovers cost the Dutchmen as they turned the ball over to the Mustangs 26 times, as well as fail to convert on all five of their extra-man opportunities. The hosts also had more ground balls than the visitors as the Mustangs had 47 and the Dutchmen had 23.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, April 1 as they travel to take on Arcadia at 1 p.m.
