Box Score 1 CLERMONT, Fla. - Stevenson softball freshman Morghan Fulton hit a three-run walk-off home run and earned a win in her first career start as the Mustangs split with Minnesota-Morris and Becker on day two on their spring break trip.
The Mustangs (1-3) picked up their first win of the season with a 15-5 six inning victory over Minnesota-Morria before falling to Becker, 6-4. First-year head coach Julia Culotta picked up her first career coaching victory.
In the opener versus the Cougars (0-6), Stevenson scored six runs over the first two innings. Junior Tiffany McKee recorded an RBI triple to right center in the opening inning before classmate Brooke Steinbach hit a two-RBI double in the second.
After Minnesota-Morris scored three runs in the top of the third, the Mustangs responded with five runs in the fourth inning. Both Steinbach and junior Jasmyn Ogletree hit RBI doubles in the inning. Fulton capped the inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Ogletree.
Stevenson earned the win in the bottom of the sixth inning as Fulton hit a three-run homer to center field to cap the victory. In the pitching circle, Fulton scattered 11 hits while striking out four to earn her first career win.
Eight of the nine hitters recorded a hit, including Steinbach who finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. McKee, senior Naomi Fields, junior Kate Finnen and freshman Haley Lennon each totaled two hits.
Versus the Hawks (2-2), the Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first career home run by McKee, which was a two-run shot to right field. McKee has already recorded her first career double, triple, home run and RBI all this season.
Becker took a two-run lead after scoring three unearned runs in the third inning before Stevenson rallied to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles by Fields and Ogletree.
With one out and the bases loaded, the Hawks reclaimed a two-run lead on a two-run RBI through the left side before sealing the win after Samantha Belenchia retired the side in order.
A day after setting a career-high in strikeouts, Steinbach set a new career-best with eight strikeouts, including six looking. Fields, McKee and sophomore Kayla Maggio recorded six of the team's nine hits.
Stevenson concludes its six-game Florida trip on Tuesday, March 14 when the Mustangs face Gordon and Fitchburg State.
