HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Stevenson men's tennis team fell in its non-conference match to St. Mary's (Md.) by an 8-1 score at the PTR Spring TennisFest held at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club.
Senior Bryan Gieselman overcame a one-set deficit in No. 1 singles to pick up the lone victory for the Mustangs. Gieselman's 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) triumph was his first singles win on the season.
Earlier in the day, Gieselman and junior Wornden Ly fell in a hard fought No. 1 doubles match, 9-7.
Ly dropped his No. 2 singles match by a 6-3, 6-2 margin, while Peter Appiah Jr. suffered a 6-2, 6-3 defeat in No. 4 singles.
Appiah and sophomore Douglas Vaughan picked up three games in No. 2 doubles, but would eventually lose the match by an 8-3 score.
Vaughan would later fall in his No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-2.
The Mustangs (0-6) compete again at the PTR Spring TennisFest on Friday, March 17 when they take on Marietta.
