Box Score 3 MAHWAH, N.J. - The No. 10 Stevenson University men's volleyball team went 1-2 in three matches hosted by Ramapo College Saturday, falling to Lasell College and the host Roadrunners by 3-0 scores before salvaging a win on the day with a 3-0 triumph over Baruch.
Against Baruch (0-7), Stevenson (7-4) won by scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-15. Senior Michael Fehrs and sophomores Landon Shorts and Jason Gardner each had seven kills in the win. Gardner also finished with four block assists. Freshman Derek Tangorra had 12 digs defensively, while senior Kyle Johnson handed out 27 assists. Senior Nate Ellis chipped in with five blocks and four kills.
The Mustangs hit .333 as a team against Baruch while limiting the Bearcats to .000 hitting with 22 kills and 22 errors on 81 attempts.
Stevenson dropped a tight 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 decision to Lasell (7-0). Fehrs led the way with 10 kills and eight digs, while Tangorra led the Mustangs with nine digs. Johnson had 22 assists and seven digs, while Shorts, Ellis and junior Alex Klunk all finished with five kills apiece.
Lasell hit .182 as a team while limiting Stevenson to .035 hitting in the contest. The Mustangs couldn't take advantage of 13 Laser service errors, committing 10 of their own, while Lasell had a total of 11 blocks to Stevenson's four.
In the middle match of the day, Ramapo (6-1) prevailed by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-20. The Roadrunners hit .338 as a squad while Stevenson hit just .074, failing to break .100 in each of the three sets. Ramapo also had 14 blocks in the contest.
Fehrs finished with seven kills on .294 hitting and also added five digs, while Shorts had a team-high eight kills. Johnson handed out 22 assists.
Stevenson opens Continental Volleyball Conference play Wednesday night when it travels to 12th-ranked Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 match.
