Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse freshman Sarah Roerty recorded five caused turnovers and five ground balls but the Mustangs could not overcome a seven-goal first half deficit as sixth-ranked Gettysburg posted a 16-6 non-conference win Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (1-2) have dropped all six meetings versus the Bullets since the series started in 2012. Gettysburg has been ranked in all six of those games, including a No. 6 ranking in the last five after being ranked No. 1 in the first-ever meeting.
Gettysburg (2-0) scored just 43 seconds into the contest but the hosts answered right back 27 seconds later with the first of two goals by senior Mackenzie Reese. Yet the Bullets had an answer and scored seven straight to build an 8-1 lead with 5:05 remaining in the half.
Junior Amanda Robshaw stopped the run with a free-position goal but the visitors scored with 0.6 seconds remaining after forcing a turnover on a clear attempt. The Mustangs finished 6-for-12 on clears in the first half.
Stevenson scored two of the first three goals to start the second half with tallies from Reese and senior Olivia Monteiro but the Bullets used another run to build a 15-4 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
Freshman Carly Bowes scored her first career goal while senior Brady Heher added her team leading ninth goal of the season on an assist from Bowes.
Gettysburg was led by Emma Christie who finished with four goals and an assist and Katie Landry who recorded three goals and two assists.
In net, freshman Mack Ferguson recorded nine saves.
The Mustangs were outshot 28-15, including 17-6 in the opening half. The Bullets also held a 13-10 advantage in draw controls and were 6-for-9 on free-position shots.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, March 4 when the Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus Montclair State beginning at 1:00 p.m.
