Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit but fifth-ranked Hobart scored just 36 seconds into overtime as the Mustangs dropped a 3-2 ECAC West contest Saturday evening at The Cooler.
It is the first overtime loss for the Mustangs (9-9-2, 4-5-1 ECAC West) in five tries this season, falling to 2-1-2 in extra time. It is also the first one-goal loss for the team who entered the game 6-0 in one-goal games this season.
The Statesmen (14-2-3, 6-2-0 ECAC West) needed just 26 seconds to get on the board as team-leading scorer Nick Bingaman found the back of the net. Stevenson falls to 2-9-1 when its opponents score first while having allowed 23 first period goals.
Vincent Russo doubled the hosts lead 6:01 into the second period before freshman Christian Ripley scored on the power-play for the Mustangs. Juniors Jordan Watt and Mike Davis picked up assists on the goal.
Davis extends his point streak to three, having tallied two points in all three games while Watt continues his impressive run of a point in nine of his last 11 games. Meanwhile, Ripley has had a point in seven of his last 10 games.
Freshman Jake McNamara knotted the game at 2-2 with 13:07 remaining in regulation on an assist from Davis. It is the first career goal for McNamara who picked up his first point since November 13.
Hobart extended its unbeaten streak to 11 with the game-winning goal in the overtime period, which Jordan Haskell scored in traffic in front of the net.
Both teams recorded 31 shots while the Mustangs won 37 of the 70 face-offs. Freshman Colton McMenamin won 10 off his 11 face-offs.
Junior Jacob Caffrey finished with 28 saves while the defense finished with 12 blocked shots.
Stevenson returns to action on Friday, February 3 when the Mustangs travel to No. 15 Neumann for an ECAC West contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
