Mueller Becomes All-Time Hits Leader as Mustangs Fall in Conference Playoffs

Box Score 1

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Stevenson softball senior Kristen Mueller recorded three hits on the day en route to becoming the program's all-time hits leader as the Mustangs fell in the MAC Commonwealth playoffs Saturday afternoon at Starry Athletic Complex on the campus of Messiah College.

The fourth-seeded Mustangs (17-26) opened the day with a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Arcadia in an elimination game before falling to top-seeded Messiah, 5-1, and second-seeded Widener, 10-6 in a double elimination format.

After falling behind 1-0 versus the Knights (23-18) on a solo home run in the second inning, sophomore Jasmyn Ogletree allowed just one hit the rest of the way as Stevenson scored the game-tying run in the third before scoring the game-winning run in the sixth.

Senior Tiffany Kahl hit a two-out sacrifice fly that scored Mueller from second after the left fielder and centerfielder collided on the catch. Ogletree recorded the game-winning RBI on a single to right field that allowed junior Nicole Dell to score.

It was the eighth complete game of the season for Ogletree who scattered just two hits, both through the first three innings. She was also a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Meanwhile, senior Molly Hoyt finished 2-for-3.

In the loss to the host and No. 11 Falcons (37-3), the Mustangs managed just four hits, including two by Mueller. She recorded her 174th career hits, surpassing the previous record of 173 set by Elizabeth Penninman '08.

Sophomore Naomi Fields recorded the team's lone RBI with a single down the left field line. Fields finished the season hitting in eight of her last nine games.

In the elimination game versus the Pride (30-10), Stevenson took a 3-0 lead through three and a half innings as Ogletree and Hoyt each tallied RBI's. Widener however, answered with four runs in the bottom of the innings and six runs in the fifth to take a 10-3 lead.

The Mustangs got three runs back in the sixth but were retired in order in the seventh.

Kahl and Hoyt each recorded three hits while Fields added two. Kahl added two RBIs and two runs while Mueller and Kahl each scored twice.

The game marked the end of the careers of Hoyt, Kahl, Mueller, Soller and Laura Welch. Together, they have led the Mustangs to three conference tournaments in four seasons, including the conference championship game in 2013.
