Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Seniors Molly Hoyt and Emily Soller both hit the seventh home runs of their careers to lead the Stevenson softball team to a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader sweep over Albright on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
With the sweep, the Mustangs (15-23, 8-8 MAC Commonwealth) earned the four seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will face fifth-seeded Arcadia on Friday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. The tournament will take place at Starry Softball Park on the campus of Messiah College.
Sophomore Brooke Steinbach threw a two-hit shutout in the opening game as Stevenson used a five-run fifth inning, including a three-run blast by Hoyt. Sophomores Kate Finnen and Sabrina Gordon hit back-to-back RBI singles in the inning.
Sophomore Naomi Fields totaled a career-best three hits as she finished 3-for-3 with a run. Hoyt and Gordon each finished with two hits as the Mustangs finished with 11 marking the 14th time the team has recorded at least 10 hits.
Steinbach totaled two strikeouts in her fifth complete game of the season and second shutout.
The Mustangs scored all three runs in game two in the third inning, including a two-run homer by Soller. Senior Tiffany Kahl recorded the third RBI with a sacrifice squeeze that scored freshman Erin Stephey from third.
Sophomore Jasmyn Ogletree recorded her sixth career shutout, scattering six hits with three strikeouts. Meanwhile, Kahl recorded two of the team's six hits.
In postgame ceremonies, the Mustangs honored Hoyt, Kahl, Soller, Kristen Mueller and Laura Welch. They have led the team to three conference tournament.
Stevenson concludes the regular season with a non-conference doubleheader at Frostburg State on Tuesday, May 3 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
