Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Junior Morgan Pritchett scored 51 seconds into double overtime to lift No. 11 Stevenson University to a 7-6 MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse victory at Mustang Stadium Saturday night.
With the win, Stevenson (13-4, 8-0 MAC Commonwealth) completes its fourth straight unbeaten season in MAC Commonwealth play and improved to 32-0 all-time in league regular season play. The Mustangs secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship and will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:00 pm. The Mustangs face the winner of fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley and No. 5 seed Albright on Wednesday.
The win was also Stevenson's 10th in a row. It also marked the first double overtime game for the Mustangs since an 11-10 loss to Lynchburg on March 15, 2006.
Widener (7-7, 6-2 MAC Commonwealth), which could have claimed the No. 1 seed with a win, slides to the No. 3 seed and will travel to second-seeded Messiah on Wednesday.
Stevenson, which never led until the final horn, tied the game with 12.9 seconds remaining in regulation on a goal by senior Pat Candon. Candon took a pass from classmate Stephen Banick and beat Widener goalie Matt Horton to the far left post for the equalizer.
After a scoreless first overtime, freshman Rocco Bruno won the faceoff and senior Taylor Morgan picked up the ground ball. Coming out of a timeout, Pritchett took a pass above the restraining line, ran past a Widener defender and bounced a shot under Horton's stick to the far left post for his third goal of the game.
Widener scored the first three goals of the second half to open up a 6-3 lead with 6:38 left on Taylor's third goal of the game. Taylor had a hand in all three goals in the run with two goals and an assist. Sophomore Kyle Karsian cut the lead to 6-4 with 1:51 left in the third quarter as he found the top left corner off a feed from senior Matt Tompkins.
Pritchett dodged a Widener defender and went in alone on Pride goalie Matt Horton and scored for his second goal of the game to make it 6-5 with 12:25 remaining.
The Pride jumped out to a 3-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game. Marc LaVine scored 43 seconds into the contest, followed by Mitchell Phillips scoring at the 10:31 mark. Taylor made it 3-0 with 7:43 to go in the first quarter.
Junior Kyle D'Onofrio got the Mustangs on the board with 2:34 to go in the first quarter, scoring off a feed from Candon. The score remained 3-1 until the 8:04 mark of the second quarter when junior Parish Young scored his 13th goal of the season. Pritchett tied the game 3-3 1:51 before intermission.
Horton made 16 saves for Widener while Stevenson counterpart, senior Connor Skeen, turned aside nine shots. The Mustangs outshot the Pride 41-35, including 25-14 in the second half and the two overtime periods. The Pride won 12-of-16 faceoffs and picked up 42 ground balls to Stevenson's 30.
Senior Chad Williams had four caused turnovers for the Mustangs, while Morgan had five ground balls. Sophomore Dom DeFazio had three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Prior to the game, the Stevenson men's lacrosse program honored 14 seniors playing in their final regular season home game.
