Mustangs Sweep Eastern With Back-to-Back Walk Offs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Senior Molly Hoyt hit a two-run home run in game one before sophomore Alli Culp scored from third base on a bunt in extra-innings in game two as the Stevenson softball team swept Eastern with back-to-back walk offs Monday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.

The Mustangs (9-15) posted a 9-2 win in six innings before scoring the lone run in the eighth inning of game two. The team posted its third doubleheader sweep in the last five, including two at home.

The hosts quickly got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double by senior Emily Soller to score classmate Tiffany Kahl who drew a walk. Stevenson added four runs in the second as Kahl and senior Kristen Mueller each totaled two RBIs.

Mueller hit a two-run bases loaded single and is now 3-for-3 on the year with the bases loaded. Her other two hits bases loaded hits this season have been grand slams. The senior added her eighth home run as the leadoff batter in the fourth inning. She is hitting .467 as the leadoff batter.

Following the second double of the game by Kahl, the Mustangs extended their lead to seven on a RBI single by sophomore Kate Finnen.

The Eagles (7-15) got on the board in the top of the sixth with an RBI double by Taylor Crown.

With one out and a runner on first, Hoyt hit her first home run of the season and fifth of her career for the first walk off of the season.

Sophomore Jasmyn Ogletree recorded the win, scattering four hits and striking out four.

The two teams combined for just three hits in the first six innings before the Eagles recorded four in the seventh. The visitors thought they had the go ahead run on a single by Leah Lozzi but Kahl threw the runner out at home from centerfield.

With a runner placed on second, sophomore Sabrina Gordon advanced the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt before Kahl reached on a bunt of her own. Culp scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice squeeze by Mueller.

Sophomore Brooke Steinbach threw a complete game allowing just four hits and striking out a season-high four batters.

Stevenson completes its three game home stand on Wednesday, April 13 when the Mustangs host a non-conference doubleheader versus Washington (Md.) beginning at 3:00 p.m.
