Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Second-ranked Salisbury and No. 19 Stevenson were tied 5-5 at halftime, but the Sea Gulls outscored the Mustangs 8-1 in the second half en route to a 13-6 men's lacrosse victory Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium. Salisbury remains unbeaten on the season at 6-1, while the Mustangs now sit 1-3 overall.
Nathan Blondino led Salisbury with three goals and two assists, while Carson Kalama and Thomas Cirillo each registered three goals and an assist.
Senior Matt Tompkins led Stevenson with three goals, while classmate Morgan Pritchett totaled a pair of goals. Junior Wade Korvin added a goal and an assist for the Mustangs.
Tied 5-5 at halftime, Blondino scored a man-up goal 1:31 into the second half to give Salisbury a 6-5 lead. 1:17 later, Blondino scored again on a feed from Kalama to push the Sea Gull lead to two for the second time in the game. The Mustangs halved the lead 1:03 later on a man-up goal by Tompkins, and it remained 8-7 until Kalama scored with 4:01 left in the third frame.
The guests made 9-6 13 seconds into the fourth on a Christian Ottenritte goal, then a three goal flurry over a 1:17 span capped by a Kalama goal with 8:32 left made it 12-6.
Tompkins gave Stevenson a 1-0 lead 1:23 into the game before Cirillo converted a man-up opportunity for Salisbury at the 11:18 mark. Pritchett scored his first goal at the 6:57 mark to make it 2-1, but Cirillo responded 27 seconds later to tie the game 2-2. Brady Dashiell gave the guests their first lead of the game with 4:14 to go in the first quarter before Pritchett's second goal of the quarter at 2:17 tied the game 3-3, where it stayed after one.
Garrett Reynolds put the Sea Gulls up 4-3 just under five minutes into the second quarter, with Salisbury maintaining a one-goal advantage until 3:46, when senior Pat Candon found a cutting Candon in front of the Salisbury goal to tie the game for the fourth time.
Cirillo scored with 2:53 remaining to put Salisbury on top before Tompkins deadlocked the game once again on a man-up goal 1:49 before intermission.
Senior Connor Skeen made nine saves for Stevenson while Salisbury counterpart Joshua Dean turned aside six shots. The guests held a 39-26 shot advantage on the evening and also picked up 40 ground balls to Stevenson's 35. Both teams won 11 faceoffs, with the Mustangs winning 8-of-10 over the final 30 minutes. Junior Nathaniel LeQuang won 11-18 draws.
Senior Taylor Morgan and sophomore Dom DeFazio each had two caused turnovers for Stevenson, while LeQuang and sophomore Lito Flanagan each picked up five ground balls.
Stevenson faces its third ranked opponent in four games on Saturday when it hits the road for the first time this season to face No. 12 SUNY Cortland in a 1:00 contest.
