OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Hood College (3-3, 2-0) swept a MAC Commonwealth softball doubleheader from Stevenson University (0-2, 0-2) by scores of 6-3 and 15-4 in five innings Saturday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.

In the opener, Hood grabbed a run in the top of the first, then scored three times in the fourth and twice in the fifth to open up a 6-0 lead.  A home run by Kayli Paugh highlighted the three-run fourth for the Blazers.

Stevenson got back two runs in the sixth.  The Mustangs had runners at second and third with no one out as sophomore Sabrina Gordon singled to lead off the inning, followed by a double by senior Kristen Mueller.  A sacrifice fly by senior Tiffany Kahl plated Gordon, while Mueller scored on a groundout by sophomore Kate Finnen.

In the seventh, senior Emily Soller led off with a solo home run.

Mustang starter Jasmyn Ogletree took the loss, allowing seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.  Paugh was the winning pitcher for Hood, striking out nine.

Hood took advantage of the longball in the nightcap, belting five home runs.  Kristy Erfurdt and Roo Saglimbeni finished with two apiece, while Ashley Fourcade also had a home run.  Saglimbeni finished with six RBI, while Erfurdt had five.

The Blazers held a 2-1 lead after one inning, then scored three times in the third, four in the fourth and six in the fifth.

Soller and Mueller each had solo home runs for Stevenson in the second game, as they each finished with two hits along with freshman Erin Stephey.  Sophomore Brooke Steinbach took the loss in the circle for the Mustangs.

Stevenson is idle until Sunday, March 13 when it kicks off its eight-game Florida trip with games against Westfield State and Saint Francis.
