Mustangs Win Two Doubles Matches in 6-3 Loss to Goucher

TOWSON, Md. - Despite victories in two of the three doubles matches, the Stevenson men's tennis team fell to Goucher in a non-conference road matchup, 6-3. Junior Bryan Gieselman and senior Peter Hoblitzell picked up a victory in a hard-fought No. 1 doubles match, 8-6.

in No. 2 doubles, senior Conrad Ellis and Troy Derrick were dominant in their 8-2 triumph. The win was the second for the duo this spring season.

Derrick also picked up the lone singles victory for the Mustangs (2-5). The first set of his No. 4 singles match went to a tie-breaker, which Derrick won 11-9. He would then easily take the second set by a 6-2 score to take the match.

After dropping the first set in No. 1 singles, 6-0, Gieselman fought back in the second to take four games, but would go on to lose the match in straight sets.

Hoblitzell, Ellis and freshman Douglas Vaughn each fell in their singles matches by the same 6-1, 6-1 score.

The Mustangs compete next in their Middle Atlantic Conference opener at Lycoming on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00 pm.
