GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior Kristen Mueller became the school record holder in home runs with her fifth of the year as the Stevenson softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader versus Gettysburg Thursday afternoon at Bobby Jones Field.
The Mustangs (3-11) were shutout for the first time this season in the opening 8-0 five-inning loss before dropping a 6-5 walk off in the second game.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Bullets (12-2) loaded the bases after a leadoff double followed by back-to-back walks. Stevenson recorded the first out of the inning as senior Molly Hoyt threw the runner out at home. But the hosts scored two runs on a bases loaded walk and passed ball.
Two of the Mustangs three hits came in the fifth inning as sophomore Alli Culp and senior Tiffany Kahl both singled. But they were both stranded as Stevenson could not advance them with two outs.
Gettysburg loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with no outs and went on the score five runs, including a one out two RBI double.
Senior Emily Soller had the only other Stevenson hit. She has recorded a hit in 11 of the team's 14 games, including a six-game hit streak during the Florida break.
In the second game, Mueller hit a lead off home run to give the Mustangs an early one run lead. The visitors would load the bases with two outs, but Hoyt was called out on an interference during the next at bat.
Sophomore Jasmyn Ogletree extended her hitting streak to four games with a leadoff double in the second inning before coming around to score on a fielding error three batters later.
The Bullets once again loaded the bases in the third inning with a leadoff walk followed by back-to-back bunt base hits. Ogletree struck out the next batter for one of her three strikeouts, but Gettysburg scored four runs on four straight batters, including a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch.
Sophomore Sabrina Gordon posted her second career multi-RBI game with a two-out two-RBI triple in the fourth inning before advancing home on a throwing error to give the Mustangs a 5-4 lead.
Gettysburg knotted the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning on a two out double to left field. Stevenson opponents have recorded 40 two-out RBIs this season.
The Bullets hit their second double of the game to score an unearned run for the walk off win.
Ogletree finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Stevenson will play its third doubleheader in the last four days as the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Lycoming on Friday, March 25. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
