Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Senior Kristen Mueller hit her second grand slam in as many days while senior Emily Soller and sophomore Jasmyn Ogletree went a combined 8-for-14 as the Stevenson softball team dropped back-to-back games Monday morning at Legends Field.
The Mustangs (1-5) dropped the opener versus Plattsburgh St., 12-4 in five innings before coming up short of a come from behind victory in a 7-6 loss to FDU-Florham.
Stevenson got on the board first versus the Cardinals (1-4) after Soller knocked in Mueller from third after Mueller started the game with a leadoff double. Soller then scored from first after a dropped third strike on a passed ball and a throwing error got Ogletree on base.
Plattsburg St. however responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning as Dominique Zummo doubled to right field to bring home the runner from third. An overthrow followed by a throwing error allowed the runner on first as well as Zummo to score on the play.
The Cardinals scored four runs on five hits over the third and fourth innings, including a three-run home run in the fourth, to build a 7-2 lead.
A two-RBI single up the middle by senior Molly Hoyt got the Mustangs back within three in the top of the fifth-inning but Plattsburgh St. scored five two-out runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game in five innings.
Soller finished 3-for-3 with two runs, a double and an RBI.
In the second game versus the Devils, the Mustangs went down 6-0 over the first two innings but Stevenson responded with five runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by the grand slam by Mueller. Junior Naomi Fields recorded the other RBI after hitting a bases loaded infield single.
Trailing by one, senior Laura Welch knotted the game at 6-6 with an RBI single to shallow center field to score Ogletree from third.
A two-out single to left field by Michelle Mangini reclaimed the lead for FDU-Florham in the top of the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the inning, a two-out single by Ogletree advanced sophomore Alli Culp to third base but she was left stranded. Ogletree finished 4-for-4 at the plate.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, March 16 when the Mustangs continue their eight-game Florida road trip versus Rutgers-Newark and Agnes Scott beginning at 9:00 a.m.
