Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – A total of 19 different players scored, and 22 players recorded at least one point as the seventh-ranked Stevenson University men's lacrosse team opened its season with a 29-1 MAC Commonwealth victory over Alvernia University Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium. The start of Wednesday's game was delayed for close to an hour due to severe weather in the area.
Stevenson (1-0, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) improved its record to 11-1 all-time in season openers under 12th-year head coach Paul Cantabene.
Six players finished with multiple goals for Stevenson. Sophomore Kyle Karsian registered four goals, while senior Pat Candon finished with three goals and an assist. Classmate Matt Tompkins also recorded three goals, while senior Ryan Kirby notched two goals and two assists. Juniors Kyle D'Onofrio and Tyler Fuhrman each notched two goals and an assist. Senior Stephen Banick added a goal and two assists, while sophomore Harrison Faecher registered a goal and an assist.
Junior transfers Sean Ohlhaver, Julian Jackson and Jacob Brown all notched their first goals in a Mustang uniform, while sophomores Bryce Spruill and Tyler Russo and freshman Dylan Schlange each recorded their first collegiate tallies.
Andrew Ritchie had the lone goal for the Crusaders (0-2, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth).
Stevenson jumped out to a 9-0 lead after one quarter, then took a 19-1 lead into the locker room. The Mustangs scored six times in the third and four more in the final frame en route to the victory.
The hosts held a 96-13 shot advantage on the evening and also collected 67 ground balls to Alvernia's 13. The Mustangs went 18-19 on clear attempts in the contest and won 30-of-34 faceoffs.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts third-ranked RIT in a 7:00 contest at Mustang Stadium.
