LANCASTER, Pa. - The Stevenson men's volleyball team continued its strong hitting as the 8th-ranked Mustangs posted back-to-back wins over Lancaster Bible and Penn State Altoona Wednesday afternoon at Horst Athletic Center.
The Mustangs (10-2), who extended their winning streak to nine, posted a 25-16, 25-15, 21-25, 25-9 victory over the host Chargers (3-6) before recording a 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 straight set win over Penn State Altoona.
For the first time in the last eight matches, Stevenson dropped a set when the Mustangs dropped the third set versus the Chargers. The Mustangs hit just .133 in that set with eight errors after hitting .275 and .522 in the first and second sets, respectively.
Stevenson responded in the fourth set, holding Lancaster Bible to just nine points while recording a .526 attack percentage. The Chargers hit just .020 in the match.
Junior David Santangelo recorded a career-best and match-high 14 kills while also adding a career-high 12 digs. He also finished with three block assists and two service aces.
Meanwhile, freshman Landon Shorts continued his strong rookie campaign with 12 kills, six digs, three service aces and two block assists. He hit .474 in the match, totaling just three errors on 19 swings.
Junior Kyle Johnson recorded a career-best 53 assists.
Against the Nittany Lions (5-2), Shorts and junior Nate Ellis combined for 21 of the team's 47 kills as Stevenson hit above .400 for the third time this season, all coming in the last five games.
Shorts also added seven digs and four service aces while senior Rob Wingert totaled 44 assists, five digs, two block assists and two service aces.
Senior Kyle Pottieger totaled nine kills while classmate Patrick Schuyler and freshman Jason Gardner each recorded eight.
Stevenson records to action on Friday, February 19 when the Mustangs travel to Cairn for a Continental Volleyball Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
