Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Visiting Lebanon Valley College closed the game on a 14-5 run as it downed Stevenson University 64-56 in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball Wednesday evening at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (8-14, 6-7 MAC Commonwealth) was paced by sophomore Sean Mayberry, who finished with 16 points on 7-16 shooting. Senior Erik Fisher notched 15 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Korey Hayman Jr. added seven points off the bench.
Andy Orr led three players for Lebanon Valley (13-9, 7-6 MAC Commonwealth) in double figures with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Lebanon Valley scored six straight points in just under a minute to take a 50-43 lead with 6:27 left on a basket by Light. Stevenson countered with an 8-0 run, taking a 51-50 lead on a Fisher layup with 4:25 to go. The lead was short-lived, as a conventional three-point play at the 3:59 mark by Will Boccanfuso put the Dutchmen back on top 53-51. From there, Lebanon Valley held the Mustangs without just one field goal the rest of the way as it closed the game on a 14-5 run.
Tied 29-29 at halftime, the two teams traded the lead six times in the first seven-plus minutes of the second half before Lebanon Valley took a 40-35 lead on an Orr dunk at the 11:38 mark that capped a 6-0 spurt. The run was halted by a three by Hayman with 11:14 left.
In the first half, Lebanon Valley opened up a 19-11 lead at the 10:24 mark, before a 6-0 spurt capped by a basket by senior Julian Davis pulled the Mustangs within two with 8:25 left. Stevenson tied the game four minutes before intermission on a Mayberry basket before Lebanon Valley scored the next four points to open up a 29-25 lead. The hosts scored four points in the final minute of the frame, and a fallaway jumper by senior Joe Kiely as time expired tied the game 29-29 at the break.
Lebanon Valley shot 47.8% in the second half and 39.6% for the game while holding Stevenson to 31.3% over the final 20 minutes and 37.1% for the contest. The Dutchmen outrebounded Stevenson 43-33 and took seven more trips to the free throw line, going 17-23 while the Mustangs went 8-16 at the stripe. LVC also connected on five of its 15 three-point attempts while the hosts went 2-14 from long range.
Men's basketball returns to action Saturday when it travels to Albright College for a 2:00 MAC Commonwealth contest.
