Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Visiting Arcadia University knocked down 13 three-pointers and shot 50% from the floor en route to a 76-64 MAC Commonwealth men's basketball victory over Stevenson University at Owings Mills Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Arcadia (3-4, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) finished 13-24 (54.5%) from three-point land and 27-54 overall as it won its second straight. Ryan Kelley finished 5-8 from behind the arc and led the Knights with 19 points and six assists, while Brandon Thompson recorded 14 points.
Stevenson (1-7, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) was paced by freshman Cameron Hayes, who finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Kyle Wooldridge totaled 12 points, while sophomore Korey Hayman, Jr. had nine points and four assists. Juniors Cliff Cornish and Christian Collins and freshman Ben Wiebusch contributed eight points apiece.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 16-9 lead just over seven minutes into the game following a three by Wooldridge, but seven straight Arcadia points capped by a Thompson basket tied the game 16-16 with 10:30 to go in the first half. Back-to-back baskets by Hayes made it 20-16 with 9:11 left, before another 7-0 spurt by the guests, this one topped by a three by Kelley, gave Arcadia a 23-20 lead at the 6:27 mark. The Knights gradually pulled away and opened up a 41-30 halftime lead.
Stevenson scored the first four points of the second half to make it a 41-34 game, but a 12-1 Arcadia run gave the visitors a 53-35 lead with 14:09 remaining following a Thompson three. The Knights took their largest lead, 68-43, with 8:56 left on an Evan Slone basket and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
Arcadia limited the Mustangs to 43.8% shooting for the game, including 2-7 behind the arc, and held a 34-27 rebounding advantage. Stevenson did take 18 more trips to the free throw line, going 20-30 while the guests were 9-12, and matched a season-low with 11 turnovers, leading to a 19-11 lead in points off turnovers for the hosts.
Stevenson is idle until next Saturday when it travels to Goucher College for a 2:00 non-conference contest. The Mustangs are on the road for their next five games.
