Box Score REISTERSTOWN, Md. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team allowed two power play goals in the opening period and could not recover as the Mustangs dropped their second straight with a 3-1 ECAC West loss versus Neumann Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
It is the fourth consecutive game the Mustangs (4-3-0, 2-3-0 ECAC West) have allowed a power play goal, including the second time allowing two. The team has also dropped three of its last four after starting the season with three straight wins.
After Stevenson took a five-minute major and game misconduct in the opening 24 seconds, the Knights (4-3-0, 2-3-0 ECAC West) took advantage as Shayne Morrissey got the visitors on the board at the 3:03 mark.
With 1:25 remaining in the opening period, Neumann doubled its lead with another power play tally. The Knights held a 15-5 advantage in shots at the first intermission.
Neumann extended its lead to three at the 15:18 mark, as Morrissey scored his second of the game, this time on a wrister that beat junior goaltender Jacob Caffrey to the far side after the Mustangs lost possession in the neutral zone.
The Mustangs got one back with 42 seconds remaining in the second period, as freshman Tyler Slusarczyk scored his third goal of the year on the power play. Classmate Christian Ripley and junior Mike Davis were credited with the assists.
It is the third straight game for Davis with an assist and leads the team with 10.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the third period as the host outshot Neumann, 13-12.
Liam Board finished with an assist on all three goals for the Knights.
Freshmen Evan Williams and Josef Kittelberger each finished with three blocked shots.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, November 19 when the Mustangs host an ECAC West contest versus Manhattanville beginning at 7:00 p.m.
