Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. - Senior Joe Kiely led four Stevenson University men's basketball players in double figures with a season-high 19 points, but Lebanon Valley outlasted the Mustangs for an 82-74 MAC Commonwealth win at Sorrentino Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Kiely finished 7-12 from the floor and also registered five steals on the evening for Stevenson (4-10, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth). Senior Erik Fisher and sophomore Sean Mayberry each finished with 18 points. Fisher, who also grabbed seven rebounds, now stands at 999 points for his collegiate career and needs 17 to reach the 1,000-point mark at Stevenson. Freshman Korey Hayman Jr. was 5-7 from the floor and finished with 14 points, a season high.
Andy Orr poured in 33 points for the Dutchmen (9-4, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth), going 12-18 from the floor and 8-8 at the free throw line.
The two teams traded the lead three times in the first five minutes of the contest. Stevenson led 11-9 following a Kiely layup at the 15:14 mark before the Dutchmen scored nine straight points to open up an 18-11 lead at the 11:26 mark. Mayberry capped a 7-1 run with a tip-in to cut the lead to one, 19-18, with 8:30 to go, but nine straight points gave the hosts a 28-18 lead with just under five minutes left before intermission. Lebanon Valley carried a 32-25 lead into the locker room.
The Dutchmen scored the first five points of the second half to extend their lead to 12 a minute into the frame. Lebanon Valley pushed the lead in the final frame to 17 twice, the last on an Orr basket with just over eight minutes left that made it 64-47. Stevenson reeled off 12 straight points to cut the lead to five, 64-59, with 5:28 to go on a pair of Hayman free throws.
Lebanon Valley staved off the rally by scoring the next seven points, with a three by Travis Conrad making it 71-59 with 3:22 left. The Mustangs pulled within six, 78-72, with 40 seconds left on a conventional three-point play by Fisher, but could get no closer, as the hosts sealed the win with a 6-6 effort at the free throw line in the final minute.
The Dutchmen shot 68% (17-25) from the floor over the final 20 minutes and 54.2% for the game while limiting Stevenson to 38% shooting. Lebanon Valley made 13 more trips to the free throw line, going 28-32 (87.5%) while the Mustangs went 17-19 (89.5%) at the charity stripe. The guests held a 36-34 rebounding advantage.
Stevenson returns home Saturday, hosting Arcadia University in a 1:00 MAC Commonwealth contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
