Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Despite a combined 55 points by seniors Christian Roberts and Erik Fisher, the Stevenson University men's basketball team was downed 82-74 by Arcadia University at Alumni Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Roberts finished with 28 points on 11-20 shooting for Stevenson (7-12, 5-5 MAC Commonwealth) while also dishing out four assists, while Fisher notched his ninth double-double of the season with 27 points and 14 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Fisher finished 9-18 from the floor. Sophomore Sean Mayberry went 5-6 at the free throw line and added seven points.
John Landro paced three players in double figures for Arcadia (13-5, 6-3 MAC Commonwealth) with 30 points, going 12-12 at the free throw line.
Stevenson took a 62-61 lead with 5:25 remaining on a conventional three-point play by Fisher, but the lead was short lived as Landro knocked down a three pointer on Arcadia's next possession. Roberts made a layup with 4:51 to go to tie the game 64-64 before Landro gave the Knights the lead for good with a jumper 15 seconds later. That kicked off an 11-1 run that gave the hosts a 75-65 lead with 1:46 left. The Mustangs got the lead down to seven, 77-70, on a Roberts three with 1:01 left, but got no closer.
The Mustangs held a 35-30 halftime lead and after seeing the lead cut to one at the 14:59 mark, built a six-point cushion, 50-44, with 13:40 to go after Roberts knocked down a pair at the line. Arcadia scored the game's next eight points, and a three by Ryan Kelley gave the Knights a 52-50 lead with 11:10 left. From there, the lead changed hands four times before the late Arcadia run.
The two teams traded the lead eight times in the opening 20 minutes before a 12-0 Mustang run capped by a layup by senior Chris Day 1:16 before intermission gave the guests their largest lead of the game, 35-26. Arcadia scored the final four points of the first half to trail by five, 35-30, entering the locker room.
Arcadia finished 9-20 behind the arc and took seven more trips to the free throw line, going 27-31 while Stevenson went 20-24 at the charity stripe. The Mustangs were 4-12 from long range but outshot the Knights 43.1%-36.5%. Arcadia held a 40-34 rebounding advantage.
Stevenson returns to action Monday night when it hosts Lycoming in a 7:00 MAC Commonwealth contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
