Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - Katerina DeSimone scored the game-winning goal 5:22 into overtime as the Stevenson field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to Roanoke Sunday morning at Shellenberger Field on the campus of Lynchburg College.
The Mustangs (0-3) dropped their second-straight one goal contest after outshooting the Hornets 39-12. Over the last two games, Stevenson has outshot its opponents 59-16 but has managed just one goal.
Heather Schauder turned away all 18 shots on goal by the Mustangs, including 11 in the second half and overtime.
Stevenson totaled four shots in the opening 1:45 of the overtime period while also recording the first seven shots of extra time, with just two was on net. Schauder collected her 17th save of the game
Down the other end, junior Gabriella Brooks came up with back-to-back saves before DeSimone directed in the game winner.
Stevenson continues its seven-game road trip when the Mustangs travel to local-rival Goucher on Wednesday, September 9. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
