Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse junior Tori Wagner totaled a career-high eight points with six goals while the Mustangs posted the sixth-largest margin of victory in school history with a 20-1 Commonwealth Conference road win at Hood on Tuesday at Thomas Athletic Field.
Stevenson (6-6, 2-1 MAC) scored at least 20 goals for the ninth time in the last five seasons while allowing one goal or less for the seventh time in program history. The team has posted three shutouts in the 21-year history, with the last coming on March 25, 2009 in a 17-0 victory over Notre Dame (Md.).
As a result, Stevenson's 19-goal margin of victory is tied for the sixth-largest in school history. The Mustangs defeated Lasell by a record-setting margin, 26-1, on March 15, 2008.
For Wagner, her eight points rank third in school history behind Leah Warner's 13 and Krissy Busse's nine. Wagner's performance is tied for the best in the Commonwealth Conference this season with Lycoming's Meghenn Jackson.
The Mustangs scored the game's first nine goals, with three of those coming from Wagner, to build a 9-0 lead just 13:02 into the game. Wagner also had an assist during the run while sophomores Brady Heher and Olivia Monteiro each added two goals. Four of the goals came on free-position shots.
Junior Caitlin McCall scored her first goal of the season and the fifth of her career with 16:58 remaining before the Blazers (2-7, 0-4 MAC) scored their lone goal at 15:53 when Shay Braithwaite found the back of the net off an assist from Aleyna Fitz.
However, Stevenson responded by totaling five more tallies in the final 11:28, including the first career goal for freshman Amanda Robshaw at 11:28, to take a 14-1 halftime lead.
The Mustangs added six more second-half goals, two of which came from Wagner and two from freshman Molly Gonzalez, the first two her career, to provide the final margin. Freshman Jessica Wagner picked up an assist on Gonzalez' second goal to earn her first career point.
Heher and Monterio each finished with three goals while senior Kathryn Merrick also had three points with two goals and an assist as Stevenson outshot Hood 35-10, including 23-1 in the first half.
Four different goalies saw action for the Mustangs with sophomores Gabriella Brooks and Taylor Lyles getting their first minutes of the season. Senior Leanne Bittner got the win, her sixth of the season, after leaving the game with 17:39 left in the first half and Stevenson in front 8-0.
The Mustangs play the first of back-to-back home games this Saturday when they host a Commonwealth Conference contest versus Arcadia beginning at 1:00 p.m.
