Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse junior Matt Tompkins was one of 16 players to score at least a point while junior Connor Skeen made four saves to earn his first career win as the No. 8 Mustangs posted a 20-2 Commonwealth Conference victory over Hood Tuesday night at Mustang Stadium.
Stevenson (7-4, 3-0 MAC) remained unbeaten in 19 games since joining the Commonwealth Conference and in nine all-time against the Blazers, outscoring them, 196-25.
Led by a goal and two assists from Tompkins and a two goals from senior Tony Rossi, the Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead with 12:43 remaining in the second quarter before Alex Villegas scored the first of his two goals at 10:41 to get Hood on the board.
From there, Stevenson 14 consecutive goals, including the first goals of the season for seniors Alex Nieves, J.P. Coombe and Jason Moffitt, to take a 20-1 lead. Freshman Dom DeFazio and senior Tim Bulmer also picked up assists during the run to mark their first points of the year.
Villegas netted his second goal with just eight seconds remaining in the game to provide the final margin.
Tompkins finished with a goal and three assists while Rossi, junior Pat Candon and senior Paul Danko each totaled three points.
Skeen earned his first career victory in his first career start with four saves and one goal allowed in 48:43. Senior Kevin Cain made three fourth-quarter saves while freshman Brody Polansky made his first career appearance in the final 1:05.
Joseph McCullogh stopped 23 shots for the Blazers (4-8, 0-4 MAC). In four career games and three starts against the Mustangs, he has made 83 saves while facing 210 shots.
Stevenson totaled a season-high 86 shots and 63 ground balls while winning a season-best 19 faceoffs.
The Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus York (Pa.) on Friday at Mustang Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
