Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and junior Connor Skeen made seven saves as the No. 7 Mustangs posted an 8-3 victory over Widener in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Wednesday at Mustang Stadium.

With its eighth-straight win, Stevenson (14-4) advances to a conference championship game for the eighth-straight year and for the 11th time in the last 12.

Senior Billy Burgoyne, who finished with three goals and one assist, had a hand in two of the Mustangs' three first-quarter tallies with a goal and an assist.

Marc Levine got the Pride (7-10) on the board 1:07 into the second quarter with the first of his two goals before the second of the night from junior Matt Tompkins gave Stevenson a 4-1 halftime lead. It was Tompkins' team-leading 33rd goal of the season and team-high 11th on the man-advantage.

The Mustangs held a slim 24-23 edge in shots in the first half, after Widener held a 16-13 margin in the second quarter.

Levine's second goal with 12:29 to play in the third pulled the Pride within 4-2, but Stevenson scored four of the game's final five goals, including two from Burgoyne to improve its record to 6-0 against Widener since 2012.

After winning 18-of-20 faceoffs against the Pride on Saturday, the Mustangs won 9-of-13 tonight while holding Widener to 0-for-7 on extra-man opportunities.

Six of Skeen's career-high seven saves came over the final three quarters while Stevenson forced 11 turnovers and totaled 38 ground balls.

The Mustangs will host second-seeded Messiah on Saturday in the Commonwealth Conference championship game beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Stevenson is 3-7 all-time in conference title games, including 2-0 in the Commonwealth, 1-4 in the Capital Athletic Conference and 0-3 in the President's Athletic Conference, now Colonial States Athletic Conference.
