STEVENSON, Md. - Led by juniors James Bishoff and Peter Hobitzell, the Stevenson men's tennis team advanced to the Commonwealth Conference championship match with a 5-3 victory over Lebanon Valley in the semifinals Tuesday at the Greenspring Tennis Courts.
The second-seeded Mustangs (9-6) will travel to Messiah on Saturday after the Falcons defeated Alvernia in Tuesday's other semifinal.
Bishoff and Hoblitzell swept their opponents at No. 2 doubles for their 10th-straight victory.
Bishoff was also a winner at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1 while Hoblitzell won his eighth match out of the last nine with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles.
Junior Conrad Ellis and sophomore Bryan Gieselman picked up a win at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-3. Ellis was also victorious at No. 3 singles, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
Gieselman was leading his No. 1 singles match 3-0 in the third set, but the match was halted after the Mustangs clinched the team victory with their fifth win.
Stevenson will face top-seeded Messiah in the conference championship on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
