Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - Stevenson men's lacrosse junior Pat Candon and sophomore Kyle D'Onofrio combined for seven goals while the No. 7 Mustangs won 18-of-20 faceoffs en route to a 16-3 victory at Widener in the Commonwealth Conference finale for both teams Saturday at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Stevenson (13-4, 8-0 MAC) finished its third-straight undefeated season in the Commonwealth Conference, posting a 24-0 record since its first season in 2013. The back-to-back conference champions have outscored their opponents 460-102, an average of 14.9 goals per game.
Candon totaled a season-high six points with three goals and three assists to headline 10 different goal scorers.
The Mustangs scored the game's first nine goals, including two each from D'Onofrio and junior Matt Tompkins as well as the first career goal for senior Joey Granata. Candon totaled a goal and two assists during the run.
Stevenson held the Pride (6-9, 5-3 MAC) scoreless until Tim Taylor scored his team-leading 20th goal of the season on the man-advantage with just 1:21 remaining in the second quarter to cut their deficit to 9-1 at the half.
The Mustangs outscored Widener 14-1 through the first three quarters and outshot the hosts, 46-14.
Stevenson added five more goals in the third, including four from D'Onofrio and Candon who each scored back-to-back before senior Billy Burgoyne picked up his 106th career goal with 1:48 left.
Candon had a hand in three of the five third-quarter tallies, totaling two goals and an assist.
Led by senior Sam Wyatt who was 10-for-11 and junior Justin Buonomo who was 8-for-9, the Mustangs won all but one contested faceoff as they lost one by violation.
Junior Connor Skeen made four saves as Stevenson outshot the Pride, 60-19.
Tyler Schulte led Widener with two goals while Marc LaVine had two assists. Tyler McClary finished with 19 saves.
Stevenson begins its quest for a third consecutive conference title next Wednesday, April 29 when it hosts the winner between Widener and Lebanon Valley in the semifinals of the 2015 Commonwealth Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship at Mustang Stadium. Game time will be 7:00 p.m.
