ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Stevenson softball senior Stephanie Ayres hit her 100th career hit while freshman Jasmyn Ogletree picked up her seventh win as the Mustangs split a non-conference doubleheader versus Eastern Wednesday afternoon at Eastern Softball Field.
The Mustangs (11-12) posted their fifth-straight victory with a 3-1 win in game one before falling 5-4 on a walk-off home run in game two. The team has posted at least seven hits in the last seven games and has hit six or less in just six games.
Ayres became the third Mustang to total her 100th career hit this season and 11th overall, joining juniors Tiffany Kahl and Kristen Mueller.
In the opening game, Ayres had a leadoff double before Kahl scored the first run on the game on a bunt single. Stevenson would score a run in the first two innings before adding an insurance run in the fifth.
Junior Kaitlyn Seger went 2-for-2 to extend her hitting streak to six games for the second time this season. Meanwhile, Ogletree also totaled two hits and added a run while scattering four hits in the pitching circle.
Freshman Brooke Steinbach recorded her second save of the season after allowing no hits in the final two innings.
Kahl and junior Emily Soller combined to go 4-for-7 with three runs in game two as the Mustangs built a 3-1 lead but the Eagles (7-17) scored four of the final five runs including a walk-off home run by Kelsey Clever.
A groundout by freshman Kate Finnen scored Kahl as Stevenson led 4-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning. But the hosts used a lead-off home run and two hits to tie the game at 4-4.
After the final six Stevenson batters were retired in order, Clever hit her first home run of the season as the lead-off batter in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Eastern to walk-off win.
Stevenson will play its second of three doubleheaders in four day on Friday, April 17 as the Mustangs travel to Hood for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
