Box Score READING, Pa. - A total of 17 players scored, including three for the first time in their career, as the seventh-ranked Stevenson men's lacrosse team won its fourth-straight game with a 27-2 Commonwealth Conference victory over Alvernia Wednesday afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field.
The Mustangs (10-4, 5-0 MAC), who are ranked at No. 3 in the first NCAA Division III South Region poll, improved to 21-0 in two-plus seasons in the conference and have outscored Alvernia 81-2 in three meetings. The team has also outscored conference opponents 394-86.
Stevenson, who held a 75-19 advantage in shots and won 33 of the 35 faceoffs, scored a school record 13 goals in the second quarter, including five in a 1:45 span, to build a 17-0 halftime lead. The duo of seniors Justin Buonomo and Sam Wyatt combined to win all 20 faceoffs in the opening 30 minutes.
Junior Stephen Banick scored a first half hat trick and added an assist while classmate Matt Tompkins and senior Paul Danko each scored twice. Meanwhile, freshman Harrison Faecher scored his first career goal while Billy Able and Buonomo totaled their first goal and assist of the season, respectively.
Freshmen Dan Halla and Kyle Karsian each scored their first career goal just 1:06 apart in the fouth quarter.
The Crusaders (3-11, 0-6 MAC) totaled two unassisted tallies in the final 2:19 of the game marking the first time Alvernia has scored against the Mustangs, breaking a 177:41 scoreless streak. Mason Etier made a career-high 22 saves for the hosts.
Defensively, the Mustangs totaled 18 caused turnovers marking the fourth-straight game the team has totaled at least 15. The team also totaled 61 ground balls, the second time Stevenson has finished with at least 60 this season.
Senior Callum Robinson led the defense with three caused turnovers and six ground balls while senior Connor Skeen posted his fourth-straight win.
Stevenson returns home for back-to-back Commonwealth Conference games beginning with Lebanon Valley on Saturday, April 18. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
